In art, craft and design, students explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings.
They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. They learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts across times and cultures and to understand the contexts in which they were made.
What will your child learn in our subject?
In Key Stage 3, art, craft and design students reflect critically on their own and other people’s work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, craftspeople and designers, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, craft and design and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives. They will begin by developing key skills within art and design including drawing skills, colour theory, collage and texture.
In art we can celebrate great success within the grades achieved by all students especially in this year’s cohort. We achieved 100% A*-C equivalency within BTEC level 2 and 3 results. We now offer GCSE Art and Design at Key Stage 4.
Extra-Curricular Activities and Trips:
We have introduced an annual trip to Barcelona to visit sights, galleries and museums. We also visit other galleries throughout the year. We run an art club and catch up sessions throughout the week.
What is special about us?
We run fun and exciting art projects to develop students’ art skills and confidence within the subject. We celebrate and share student work through displays and annual exhibitions.
