Our aim in Drama is to develop confidence in expressing individuality and learning how to work with peers in a productive way.
What will your child learn in our subject?
Students will be timetabled for two hours per fortnight. In each Year: 7, 8 and 9, students will study one term of Drama, one term of Dance and one term of Musical Theatre. This is to develop and broaden students’ knowledge of the Performing Arts Industry and secure understanding of the subject at a level which will allow them easy progression into BTEC Level 2, Acting or Dance. Students in Drama will study; acting skills and techniques, devising and scripted plays.
- The Drama department had a 100% pass rate for Year 13 BTEC level 3, within this class of 16 there were 11 Distinction * (equivalent to A* at A level)
- Last year a trip was organised for Gifted and Talented pupils to see the musical ‘Matilda’ in the West End, London. 52 pupils attended the trip which was a reward for their hard work and dedication to the subject.
- The drama department put on a performance of ‘Fame’ as Marriotts summer musical which involved all year groups. Over 300 parents came to support their children and the school.
- We now have six drama leaders in Drama who had to apply and be interviewed for the role. These gender mixed pupils have the responsibility to run clubs, rehearsals and be role models for the younger year pupils.
What is special about us?
We endeavour to improve every child’s confidence and self-belief both in Drama and beyond.
