Providing an introduction to French using interactive and engaging resources. Skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed enabling students to communicate in French and learn about French culture.

What will your child learn in our subject?

In Key Stage 3 students will learn to describe themselves and their interests and explore the culture behind the language. They will write in different registers and study authentic texts as well as translating to and from French. They will learn to talk about their school in French and compare a typical school day to a French one. They will learn to describe their town and talk about their holidays. After two years in Key Stage 3 students will be able to talk about a whole range of subjects and use tenses, give opinions and formulate longer sentences with connectives and more complex grammatical structures.

Celebrating Success:

In Modern Foreign Languages our greatest success is the feeling of achievement when students can make themselves understood in a different language, especially when they can go from learning single words to being able to write a whole page in one year.

Extra-Curricular Activities and Trips:

In Modern Foreign Languages we have pen pal projects, an exchange to Germany in year 9 and languages day with food tasting.

What is special about us?

We have all travelled extensively to Germany and France and have very good subject knowledge or native speaker knowledge. We teach very interactively to encourage students to use the new language when communicating.
