Lily swam 5 individual events and 2 relay teams at the weekend, competing in the Regional Championships held in Luton.
Lily swam personal best times in all her individual events and won 2 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals. Lily also won Gold in the 4x100m Medley Relay team, where she swam the Butterfly leg.
Lily also secured another 2 National Championships qualifying times in the 100m & 200m Breastroke. Lily now has 6 National Championships qualifying times the most she has ever had in one year. Lily has been competing at National level since the age of 11 but only in 1 or 2 events.
The most fantastic news was in Lily’s 200m Butterfly event, where she was after the British International qualifying time of 2:19.35. Lily’s personal best time was 2:19.41 which Lily swam at the National championships last August.
Lily swam her heat & won it with an amazing time of of 2:17.80 and then went onto win gold in the final.
Lily can now compete at the British International meet alongside our top british swimmers and those from other countries, being held in June at Manchester, which will be Lily’s highest achievement to date.
Lily’s time of 2:17.80 has now ranked Lily as 5th fastest in the country for her age and if Lily does decide to go onto join the Loughborough University swimming team when she leaves Marriotts sixth form, Lily will now automatically go into their top performance squad as their automatic qualifying time is 2:18.65.
It was lovely to see Lily at the end of her race, look up at the scoreboard to find out her time and see her overjoyed emotion which then led her to shed some tears.
