5 Ways to Wellbeing

At Marriotts we are committed to teaching students about the importance of wellbeing. This was particularly important to us during covid where we had a number of wellbeing days to get students off their screens and engaged in wellbeing activities. The focus of these activities was on understanding and practicing the 5 Ways to Wellbeing :

Connect: There is strong evidence that indicates that feeling close to, and valued by, other people is a fundamental human need and one that contributes to functioning well in the world.

Connect

Be active: Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety across all age groups. Exercise is essential for slowing age-related cognitive decline and for promoting well-being.

Be active

Take notice: Reminding yourself to ‘take notice’ can strengthen and broaden awareness. Heightened awareness enhances your self-understanding and allows you to make positive choices based on your own values and motivations.

Take notice

Learn: Continued learning through life enhances self-esteem and encourages social interaction and a more active life. The practice of setting goals, which is related to adult learning in particular, has been strongly associated with higher levels of wellbeing.

Keep learning

Helping Others: Individuals who report a greater interest in helping others and participating in social and community life are more likely to rate themselves as happy.

Helping others

Wellbeing is an important strands in our Personal Development strategy and contribute to ensuring that

Every single student reaches and exceeds their potential and leave us with the qualifications, knowledge, skills and attitudes that they need to move on to the next stage of their lives

As you can see from the wonderful video below students had an amazing series of days putting the 5 ways to wellbeing in action.
